Pink Boot Jump

When I was six years old, I decided to make myself a pair of shoes. I cut 70’s knit fabric into the shape of a moccasin, and glued it to a cutout, cardboard sole. I waited for them to dry, put them on, and took a couple steps as they tore and fell off my feet. I was very distraught that my idea did not work. Years later, I went back to the “drawing board” and figured out how to make a pair of functioning cardboard boots.  My homemade boots could do just about anything. They took on a mind of their own, and controlled the legs wearing them. After jumping, running up flights of stairs, playing the xylophone, taking the bus, walking the dog, the boots would tear and disintegrate. I am interested in the ephemeral quality, and in the strange and imaginative opportunities that my homemade cardboard boots have to offer.
