Relational Traffic Studies

Daily Mapping- Phnom Penh Series

Daily Mapping- Phnom Penh Series (selected drawings), pen on paper, 8.5 x 11 inches, 2008

After my first stay in Phnom Penh  in 2008, I drew my daily walking, tuk tuk, and motorbike routes through the city from my mental and kinesthetic memory. These routes gave me a point of reference in the large city that often lacked street signs and consistent sidewalks.

Daily Mapping- Phnom Penh Series marked the beginning of the project Relational Traffic Studies (2008-2009), which was a study on mapping, contemporary globalization, human trafficking, and vehicular traffic patterns. Because I frequently referenced these maps throughout the course of the project, they have become dirty and tattered.
